Tablet coating machines are typically found in the Pharmaceutical Industry, in the finishing areas of drug manufacturing production lines.

The tablet coating machine is employed to coat the external surface of a tablet using a thin film of coating material. The coating is a process is essentially a dry, outer layer of coating material which is applied to the surface of a dosage form in order to confer specific benefits over uncoated variety. It involves application of a sugar or polymeric coat on the tablet.

Working principle of tablet coating machine is relatively simple where the application of the coating material is done on a moving bed of tablets and removing rapidly the solvent using a current of hot air. Tablets are placed in a closed drum which rotates continuously in an orbital manner whereby the coating medium sprays automatically in a rational manner to avoid excess coating on the tablets. Hot air is introduced in the process to help drying and regulate temperature.

The result is a uniform coating of the tablet with an organic solvent, aqueous or enteric coating.
